Corkill home objectives
We envision out home to be a nurturing and learning environment where we can get away from daily stresses of our busy, performance and media-immersive lives.
1. Enjoy the outdoors, take advantage of our lake location
Blend and blur indoors and outdoors. Make playing outdoors easy.
2. Have a home that will be inviting to others and conducive to entertaining
Give people a reason to drive 30 minutes into the country… and stay awhile.
3. Our retreat
We feel like we’re “away” when we arrive home.
4. Grow with us
Right now we have a toy room and very social children. Soon we’ll need more homework stations and away spaces.
5. Foster family togetherness
Creating integrated spaces doing double duty, children sharing bedrooms, and…
In both space use and energy use.
7. Integrating home and work spaces
Having a working parent available for school-aged kids in a time when work is not just 8 to 5.
8. Creative environment
A well thought out, structured and artful environment offers fuel for creative inspiration.
Challenge: In revisiting our plans, square footage, and needed functions we are somewhat frustrated to realize that the house is larger than we expected, and we seem to be having trouble fitting in all of the needed functions…
